Somatic Experiencing| Trauma & Nervous System Healing
Reconnect With Your Body. Heal From Trauma. Build Resilience.
Stress and trauma often show up in the body, even without clear or conscious memories of the overwhelming event. Somatic Experiencing® (SE) works directly with the implicit memory system, the nonverbal, body-based memories that often underlie trauma responses. It is a gentle, body-centered approach that helps individuals reconnect with their innate ability to regulate and heal from trauma and stress. Rather than revisiting trauma through talk alone, SE supports deep healing by helping the body complete thwarted or interrupted the protective responses.
Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing® is grounded in decades of research into how the nervous system responds to trauma. It draws from biology, psychology, neuroscience, ethology (animal behavior), and insights from indigenous and traditional healing practices.
Who Is Somatic Experiencing For?
If you’re a human on this planet, you’ve likely experienced trauma in some form. These experiences, whether chronic, acute, or developmental, can leave lasting imprints on the nervous system, often showing up as symptoms like anxiety, depression, panic attacks, CPTSD, PTSD, sleep disturbances, disordered eating, chronic pain, or autoimmune conditions. The good news is that it is possible to reconnect with your body’s natural wisdom and move toward greater ease, safety, and resilience. Somatic Experiencing helps complete self-protective responses that may have been suppressed or thwarted during an overwhelming experience.
SE may benefit people experiencing:
Anxiety or panic attacks
PTSD or complex trauma (CPTSD)
Sleep disturbances or chronic fatigue
Chronic pain, autoimmune symptoms, or tension
Dissociation—feeling spaced out, on autopilot, numb, foggy or like watching life from the outside
Difficulty feeling safe, present, or connected to the body
Many people come to SE after feeling stuck or overwhelmed in traditional talk therapy. This approach is especially supportive for people struggle to feel emotions or stay grounded in the present.
What to Expect in a Somatic Experiencing Session
In our work together, we’ll slow down and gently explore the internal experience—tracking physical sensations, emotions, and movement patterns. You'll learn tools to support nervous system regulation and increased body awareness in order to safely release held tension or survival energy. SE sessions are paced to support safety, curiosity, and self-trust.
As you build resilience and restore connection to your body, you may notice more ease, balance, and vibrancy in your life. Healing becomes less about "fixing what's wrong" and more about reconnecting with a state of balance and wellbeing.
A Compassionate Approach to Trauma Therapy
I bring a warm, relational, and nonjudgmental presence to our sessions. I help people to explore the thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and unconscious patterns that shape their daily experience. With compassion and a touch of humor, we uncover new possibilities for healing, growth, and embodiment. Clients also report greater capacity to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and resilience.
